🎉 A Free Jackbox Alternative for Large-Group Trivia

Comparisons · September 13, 2026

QuizLlama is a free Jackbox alternative when the activity you want is a live trivia quiz with your own questions. A host runs the shared screen, guests answer on phones, and everyone competes on the quiz leaderboard. You can host up to 30 players without an account, or up to 100 with free Google sign-in.

If you want drawing, bluffing or a particular Jackbox game's characters and mechanics, a custom trivia quiz will be a different experience. This comparison is written by QuizLlama to help you choose between those formats, not to present them as interchangeable. Official Jackbox information was checked on September 13, 2026.

What guests need in each setup

Jackbox's getting-started guide explains that the host runs the game and players use jackbox.tv in a browser as their controller. Guests need to see the host's screen. They do not need to install a mobile app to join.

QuizLlama also uses a shared host screen and browser-based answers. The host opens the website, chooses or builds a quiz, and gives guests the game PIN. There is no party pack to purchase for this workflow. Both setups need a workable internet connection and a screen guests can follow; using phones does not remove the need to test the room's network.

Player slots are not the same as an audience

Jackbox's official player-count guide lists different limits for individual games, and many games support an audience that can participate in additional ways. A claim that Jackbox simply cannot accommodate a large gathering would miss that distinction.

For a 24-person trivia night, ask what you want those 24 people to do. If everyone should answer the same questions as an individual competitor, QuizLlama's anonymous player limit covers that group. If your guests would enjoy watching a smaller group play while influencing the outcome, look at the audience mode of the specific Jackbox title. For 60 individual QuizLlama players, the host must use free Google sign-in to access the higher limit.

Build the evening around your group

QuizLlama lets you edit the actual trivia content. Start from a 15-question event pack, select Customize, and swap in questions suited to your guests. For a work celebration, you might mix general knowledge with questions about shared events; avoid personal details that guests would not want displayed. For family gatherings, preview the questions for age and topic suitability.

Try the Christmas pack for a holiday gathering or the NFL pack for football trivia. Answers are available on each pack page, so send guests to the join screen rather than sharing the answer-preview page during the game.

When Jackbox remains the better fit

If someone already owns the game everyone wants to play, use it. Jackbox's event guide explains that only one person needs to purchase a game for others to join. QuizLlama is an option for free, editable trivia, not a reason to replace a party format your group already enjoys.
