QuizQuizLlama is built to go from "let's play something" to a live quiz on everyone's phones as fast as possible. No sign-up, no app to install for players — just a link and a PIN. Here's the whole flow.
1. Get a quiz
You've got four ways to end up with a playable quiz, and you can mix them:
- Pick from the question bank. The homepage has ready-made categories — geography, movies, science, sports, languages, and more — each with hundreds of questions. Choose how many you want and whether to use one subcategory or a random mix, and a quiz is generated instantly.
- Import a spreadsheet. Already have questions in a CSV or Excel file? Download the template from the homepage, fill it in, and import it directly.
- Generate from a topic. If AI generation is enabled on your instance, type any topic (or paste a Wikipedia link) and get a draft quiz to edit — handy for "80s cartoons" or a friend's hometown trivia.
- Build from scratch. Start a blank quiz and write your own questions, answers, and timers by hand in the builder.
2. Save your link
The moment you create a quiz, QuizLlama generates a secret edit link for it — that's your only way back in if you're not signed in, so bookmark it or keep the tab open. Signing in with Google (when enabled) attaches quizzes to your account instead, so they show up under My quizzes from any device.
3. Start the game
Open the host screen for your quiz and you'll see a big game PIN and a URL. Players open that URL on their own phones, type in the PIN, pick a nickname, and they're in the lobby. Once everyone's there, hit start.
4. How scoring works
Scoring is Kahoot-style: answering instantly and correctly is worth up to 1000 points, decaying down to 500 points if you buzz in right as the timer runs out. Answer wrong and you get zero for that round. A live leaderboard shows between questions, and the last screen is a podium for the top three.
Tips for a smoother quiz night
- Same wifi matters. Players need to be on the same network as the host for the local link to work. If your quiz doesn't load on a locked-down office network, try a home wifi or a personal hotspot — some corporate networks block the live connection entirely.
- Preview with Practice mode. Every quiz has a single-player Practice mode so you can sanity-check questions and timing before you put them in front of a crowd.
- Mix it up with Surprise Me. Can't decide on a category? The "Surprise Me" bank pulls a random mix from every category in the bank.
- Dropped players can rejoin. If someone's phone dies or they lose signal mid-game, rejoining with the same nickname picks their score back up where it left off.

Do players need to make an account? No — joining a game only needs a nickname.
Is there a player limit? Yes, a per-game cap that keeps anonymous games reasonable; signing in as a host raises that cap.
Can I reuse a quiz? Yes — hosting doesn't consume it. Open the same host link any time to run it again.
What happens if the host disconnects? The game ends and the PIN stops working, so make sure the host's connection is stable before you kick things off.
